Relationships

“Date Night” – sounds terrible, doesn’t it? Like the title of a shlock horror movie – and believe me, that’s exactly the way it sounded when I first came up with the idea too. Date Night is an idea we came up with to help fall in love again and save our marriage and it was an idea that began, believe it or not, from a piece of advice I read in an relationships book.

It might be that we were a bit farther along the road of reconciliation than you might be right now. Although we were still separated we had (after me following all the recommended initial contact steps) come to the point where we had gained a delicate friendship – and we’d both admitted to each other that we wanted to be together again. But we needed to fall back in love first.

And so, after changing some things about the initial advice just a bit to suit ourselves, I came up with Date Night. And yes, my ex was as appalled by the idea at first as I was. Organised, planned dating sounds as fun as set activities on summer vacations, like following a tour guide with one of those little flags.

But the idea was, once a fortnight at first, and later every week, and in the end every Friday night, we’d go out on a date. Just like we used to when we were courting when we first met. It didn’t have to be a posh restaurant, but it also wasn’t allowed to be a cheapo meal at a place where we’d been a hundred times. The idea was to make the sitation, the setting, different enough and unusual enough to make us concentrate on us. And movies were out – simply because we wanted to talk, not sit and watch a screen.

And as I’m sure you’ll know, something magic happened. We both found ourselves starting to look forward to Date Night. Each week we’d take it in turns to decide what we’d be doing and I found (and my partner did too) that I was starting to think about Date Night all the time. Planning a venue I just knew he’d love, just to get that buzz when I’d see how much he was enjoying himself. Enjoying himself with me – again.

We did some interesting things – dinners in new restaurants, planned picnics by the harbour, mini golf(!), art galleries – we even climbed over the fence of the Botanic Gardens at about 11pm and strolled around in the moonlight, just us. We felt like kids again, carefree and just having fun, and that created a space where our love began to grow again.

Now, a year later we’re happily in love and living together as husband and wife again. And we still do Date Night – just because it’s fun!

I heartily recommend the concept of Date Night to anyone who feels it might help save their marriage. It’s just one of the many tips and tricks you’ll find in the Magic of Making Up – advice that really works. Give it a try.

Strong communication skills are looked upon greatly by successful people. It can contribute 50%-80% of our total communication. Body language must be read in context, congruence and clusters. Depending on culture and other backgrounds it can be useful to understand more fully. It is important to learn how to use body language and read the singnals better.

The Eyes Say It All

The eyes give people away. You can see what someone will be accessing in their mind by watching where they go to access this information in their eyes. If the person you speak to looks upward they are visualising an image. Left and right is auditory. Downward will indicate that they are either talking to themselves or feeling something about what you said to them. To work out if its constructed or remembered you must ask them questions first to work out how they access their information. By asking them questions you know they must remember you can work out where their remembered side is. Then by finding this out you can find the constructed side also. Be careful with assuming people are lying though.

Eye Gaze

Look to people as they do to you. If they stare a lot longer this allows you to do the same. If they dont look at you as much try to do the same. It may be disrespectful to look at them in their culture. Mirror them and you should be fine.

How you Hansshake help

You character and personality are often said to be shown in your handshake. Again its a form of a greeting and a way of building rapport with people. Similar handshakes are great for building that relationship.

You’re probably wondering, what does this have to do with a handshake? Well if you shook someone’s hand and you were extremely stronger than the other person do you think this will build or detract from the relationship? Likewise if you go in with a soft handshake and the person you approach has a strong handshake, will this help? No. Ultimately you need to match the other person’s behaviour to build a relationship as by doing something that detracts from the meeting will not help.

A lot of different cultures dont even shake hands, so by putting your hand out to shake you may cause issues within the relationship. Some people wave or bow so again for a perfect greeting and to make the other person comfortable its good to greet them as they would like to be greeted.

Using your Gestures

Again people gesture when speaking, Some cultures do it more than others. If you can mirror the gesturing, the length of gesturing and also the enthusiasm within the gesturing you will help the other person understand you. As these are your words, by using the words the other person uses you can communicate effectively.

Negative Stuff

If you see barriers across the body like books, desks, chairs in front, or even arms these things can tell you that someone is either hiding from confrontation or could have a negative viewpoint. People may distant themselves by putting things in front of their body or crossing their arms and legs. This could all indicate negativity or non-action. Watch the feet as they also point to what the person really is interested in.

Relationship Building

Show similarities with people in the vocal, visual and verbal communication and they will build rapport with you easier. Showing likeness and similarities will help the other person identify with you and find reason to like you.

Communicating with people and mirroring behaviour is a great way to build business and personal relationships.

People engage the services of accountants expecting them to reduce their taxes. Once you decided you need an accountant, get the one who can give you the best service.

Treat Your Accountant As a Friend and Associate

Usually, you’ll find two breeds of accountants. One is the casual sort who just sits back until you have sent your financial data for him to prepare you taxes. Another type would be concerned with formalities necessary for the performance of his task. You should rather be with this other accountant. So you can pay the minimum taxes, you should have a truly competent accountant. The no-nonsense type knows that preparation is the key to a job well done and would go to work immediately. They don’t want to be in a position where they are pressed for time to finish the job. So what they will do is confer with you early and discuss all matters related to the task ahead, in this case your income tax. Based in what the accountant has learned in your meetings, they can advise you what to do or not to do to cut down on your tax payments.

It would pay to remember that accountants are really just ordinary persons like you. If they sense that you are taking your tax payments for granted, then most probably they will feel no sense of urgency. And if you don’t listen to their suggestions, then the blame will be on you. Opportunity delayed is opportunity denied, so do not drag your feet. Doing so will undoubtedly enable you to save possibly thousands of dollars.

Having said all that, where to get this professional accountant? Perhaps you can ask from people you know, and there’s always the ‘net. The best way to know if you have the right person is to meet them. At the first opportunity, tell them to explain what their plans are about your tax payments. Should they express some ideas or suggestions without prior reference to the state of your finances, chances are they are not the right persons for the job.

There are two steps you’ve got to do to get the most from your tax advisors. One, get the most professional one. Two, obey their instructions to the letter.

Congratulations, you made it to the second date. Like date number one, this second date has a completely new set of rules.

During the second date, you are most likely to let your guard down and be more open about your persona life. In turn, you would also be asking more questions that would reveal more personal stories about your date to get to know him or her better.

Also critical are the location and the timing of this second round. There are a number of key things to do on a second date that will help make it a winner.

If you decide you want a shorter date, arrange to have it on a weekday. If you choose a shorter date, ideas for your date could include spending quality time at a coffee shop or a casual restaurant.

Having the second date on a weekend will mean a much more longer date and that you are comfortable with spending more than a few hours together. While taking a trip is too early at this stage, you can still do some exploring and walking by going around the city and showing each other your favorite hangouts.

Alternatively, if you want to keep it low key, then doing it during the day is a good idea. Maybe you could go to the park and have an ice cream, or you could take in a matinee show.

For a more intimate atmosphere, a night out may be in order. Watching a play or a movie, some bowling, a game of pool, or hanging out at a club are some popular choices.

On the second date you are likely to both be more comfortable and willing to let your guard down. No matter what you end up doing on it, try to ensure that you are yourself and don’t try to be something you aren’t.
